A Lifelong Connection with Horses
Cristina’s equine bodywork journey began in 2020. However, her life with horses dates back to 1984. Cristina first started riding lessons at the age of 8. By the time she was 10, she had her first horse, and the barn quickly became her second home. Growing up in Alberta, where horses are cherished, empowered her to experience numerous equine activities.
She competed in the hunter and jumper A circuit in Western Canada. Cristina also trained horses and managed a Connemara breeding program at home. Her passion for horses was evident from a very young age.
Transitioning Away From Horses
Life took a turn for Cristina after she completed her Master's degree in Psychology (B.A., M.Ed). She lived and worked in Mexico and the USA, which pulled her away from full-time horse ownership. During this time, Cristina married and moved to Ontario in Eastern Canada. Along the way, she became a proud mother to three wonderful daughters.
As her daughters grew older, Cristina regained her focus on horses. Her bond with these magnificent creatures only deepened over time. As we know better, we do better! Today, she is grateful for the opportunity to introduce children to horse care and riding. Cristina is now an adult amateur rider and a full-time equine bodyworker. These different roles allow her to nurture her connection with horses in various ways.
Discovering the Benefits of Equine Bodywork
Cristina’s previous horse, Gus, played a significant role in her journey toward equine bodywork. Gus was an Off-the-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) who had spent four years on the racing circuit. It was his experience that revealed the incredible benefits of massage. This inspired Cristina to become a Certified and Insured Equine Massage Therapist and Equine Myo-manipulative Functional Therapist.
In her quest for knowledge, she discovered The Masterson Method®. Becoming a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner (MMCP) elevated her bodywork skills significantly. The techniques she learned made her a more proficient bodyworker. Christina's clients have witnessed the positive changes and many added benefits that the Masterson Method® has brought to their horses.
The Transformative Power of Relaxation
As a full-time equine bodyworker, Cristina feels truly humbled to give back to these extraordinary animals. She witnesses firsthand the transformative power of relaxation and tension release as horses surrender to peaceful moments. Observing lowered heads, yawns, and gentle sighs is a testament to the profound benefits of the Masterson Method® that enhance performance and accelerate recovery.
The complex nature of horses often leads them to accumulate tension. Cristina collaborates with horse owners to address tension-related issues. When horses feel discomfort, their bodies can develop compensatory mechanisms, leading to even more tension and potential lameness. Through Masterson Method® Equine Bodywork, she facilitates tension release, which enhances equine mobility and overall well-being.
Goals of Equine Bodywork
Cristina's foremost goal is to help horses move optimally while reducing the risk of injury and enhancing their comfort. She has learned invaluable insights about horses through the Masterson Method® and is excited to continue her practice. Every horse has something unique to teach us!
Conclusion
Through her ongoing learning and experience, Cristina is dedicated to improving the lives of horses. Her passion for equine bodywork reflects her unwavering commitment to these majestic animals. By applying the Masterson Method®, she creates a positive impact, paving the way for their health, performance, and happiness.
